Marine Logistics Innovation

Recognising a need for optimised trade through the Port of Broome, KMSB is developing new port infrastructure with innovative infrastructure at the fore.

Through an innovative infrastructure design and flexibility to deliver bespoke commercial and operational solutions, KMSB will overcome existing limitations associated with the current infrastructure, opening the Port of Broome up to a broad range of industries and logistics support for those industries.

Key beneficiaries of the facility will include;

  • Cattle Transport
  • General Cargo
  • Cruise Ships
  • Platform Support Vessels
  • Roll on - Roll Off (Vehicle and Machinery)
  • Green Energy

Infrastructure

Superior, modern marine facilities that work for the location and the user.

KMSB will deliver a contemporary marine infrastructure system developed specifically for Broome’s unique and extreme tidal fluctuations.

The KMSB Facility has been designed to incorporate a floating wharf linked to a fixed causeway, allowing safe and efficient 24/7 operations regardless of tide depth.

Key design elements include:

  • 360m long, bi-directional causeway.
  • 85m linkspan bridge.
  • Two restraint structures.
  • 50m x 165m (8,250m2) floating wharf platform.
  • Breasting and mooring dolphin arrangements.
  • Low impact abutment.
  • High capacity crane.

The positioning of the wharf takes advantage of naturally occurring deep water to create a berth pocket that is a minimum of 17 metres deep at low tide, with no additional dredging required.

Support Land

KMSB will support efficiency enhancements for inventory and asset management with greater than 10ha of industrial support land located within 2kms of the berth.

The Facility will utilise this support land to drive a more efficient logistics solution, to service the oil and gas, agriculture, tourism and cargo shipping industries.

KMSB support land accommodates:

  • 1.5ha "just-in-time" laydown area.
  • Abundant land suitable for laydown and warehousing.
  • Land to support emerging service companies within the region.

Development of the KMSB Facility will incorporate upgrades to the road network within the Port to mitigate safety risks, reduce congestion and improve traffic flow to the KMSB wharf.

Solutions

Combining contemporary marine infrastructure and a modern operating model, KMSB will drive advanced solutions for all manner of industrial activity.

Key beneficiaries of the Facility will include Agriculture, Tourism, General Cargo, Green Energy, Roll on - Roll Off Vehicles and Machinery, and Platform Support Vessels.

KMSB adopts a collaborative approach with customers and end-users to ensure streamlined, cost-effective logistics solutions.
