From Conception to Construction

In 2016 KMSB recognised a requirement to support enhanced trade through the Port of Broome and proceeded to conduct feasibility studies into the construction of the new KMSB Facility.

Binding option to lease agreement with Kimberly Port Authority

2018

Project Proposal

Preferred design solution confirmed and subsequently release of project proposal

2019

Governance Submission Approved

WA State Government approved the development of a floating wharf at the Port of Broome

2020

Approvals Granted

Heritage and environmental approvals granted Construction tender let Operator appointment process commenced

2021

Design and Construct

Preferred contractor appointed to design and construct

2022

Modelling Confirmations

Detailed numerical and physical modelling confirming infrastructure's ability to withstand severe weather events

2023

Project Fully Funded

Finalisation and approval of detailed designs Physical modelling Commencement of procurement phase Announcement and approval of land

2024

Construction Commenced

Commencement of construction phase: Floating wharf, Abutment, Causeway, Mooring Piles, Landside works, Road modules, Linkspan Bridge, and Restraint Structures.

2025

Commencement of operations

Restraint structure connections Linkspan to floating wharf connections Testing and commissioning Procurement and delivery of harbour crane Development of laydown yards in Port precinct.
