Land Capabilities

KMSB’s landside areas support cargo handling, laydown and logistics activity associated with vessel operations. The facility includes just‑in‑time (JIT) laydown and secure storage areas for cargo staging, inventory and heavy equipment handling. A bi‑directional 400‑metre causeway and upgraded road infrastructure provide direct access between the quayside and landside areas, supporting safe and efficient vehicle movements. This configuration allows marine and landside activity to be coordinated as part of day‑to‑day logistics operations.

Additional laydown space is available within 2 kilometres of the wharf to support logistics and haulage activity.

Land Activation

Medium to long-term laydown areas located within 2km from the wharf’s entrance, are available to support storage and logistics activity.

  • The developed land will support KPA’s long-term strategy to position Broome as a logistics hub.
  • Includes an existing short‑term laydown area (~1.5 ha) at Port Drive East.
  • Includes ~17 ha at Port Drive West, suitable for pipe storage and associated activities.
  • Road infrastructure is being developed to support both KPA and KMSB port facilities.
  • Connection to Broome’s RAV10 road network supports PBS ‘Super Quad’ road trains and oversized cargo movements between the quayside and the KMSB facility.

Land Availability Near the Wharf

KMSB offers more than 20 hectares of prime industrial support land within 2 km of the wharf, ideal for diverse logistics and warehousing developments. This landbank supports efficient inventory management, asset staging, and laydown, enabling rapid mobilisation of heavy equipment and cargo operations.

Container Park

Current plans include 3.5 hectares of the laydown area being utilised for the storage of approximately 4500 loaded and empty retainers for a single client. This is to mitigate delays due to vessel schedules.

Bulk Warehouse

There's potential to develop a bulk warehouse capable of storing around 46,000 tonnes, equivalent to two months of production.

Distances from the Port

The support land is located within 2km from the wharf, facilitating efficient logistics.

Port Volume Constraints

The KMSB facility's design aims to enhance capacity and efficiency, contact us if you are intending to bring oversize cargo through the facility.

Buffer Stock on Wharf

The floating wharf's 9,900 square metre platform allows for the storage of buffer stock, supporting continuous operations. Rotainer and container stacking on the wharf is an option.

Road Train Access

Road access between the quayside and landside areas is supported through purpose‑designed road infrastructure connecting to Broome’s RAV10 road network. This enables the safe movement of PBS ‘Super Quad’ road trains and oversized cargo between the quayside, the KMSB facility and onward distribution through the Kimberley and Pilbara.

A 400‑metre bi‑directional causeway, incorporating an 85‑metre linkspan bridge, connects the floating wharf to the landside access point. This configuration supports two‑way traffic flow and accommodates a range of vehicle types associated with port, logistics and haulage operations.
