KMSB has funded a major upgrade to the entrance of the Port of Broome, improving access for commercial operators, marine services and the wider Broome community.

The Port of Broome Road Upgrade focused on the main access point connecting the KMSB Terminal 2 and Kimberley Ports Authority Terminal 1 with Broome’s road network.

A key part of the project was the construction of a new roundabout, designed to provide safer and easier access to both port terminals. The entrance is used every day by heavy vehicles, port workers, marine service providers, local boat owners and families heading to and from the water.

Delivered in partnership with local contractor

The works were delivered in partnership with local contractor McCorry Brown Earthmoving. They included construction of the new roundabout, realignment of Kabbarli Road, upgraded stormwater drainage, and relocation of the existing non-compliant water main. New power, water and communications conduits were also installed to support future infrastructure needs.

"The new roundabout provides safer access to both terminals and makes it easier for commercial vehicles, marine operators, local boat owners and families to move through the area." KMSB Managing Director Andrew Natta said.

The road project builds on KMSB’s broader investment within the Port of Broome, including the delivery of Terminal 2’s tide-independent floating wharf, causeway and supporting fuel infrastructure.

Construction has finished, with materials and compaction testing certified by Kimberley Soils Laboratory, a NATA-accredited testing authority. The upgraded entrance now carries the mix of commercial, marine and community traffic using the precinct every day.
